Now one can dream of pursuing a PhD programme after a four-year-graduation course. Thanks to the new regulations of the University Grants Commission. The education body has also done away with the mandatory publication of a research paper before submitting a thesis. The new rules of the UGC come after it conducted a study on compulsory research papers submitted by 2,573 scholars of top-ranked Central Universities and IITs. The UGC found that the mandatory publication of 75% of students of central universities did not meet the standards and their publications are not in Scopus indexed journals.
